WHO MIGHT BE CALLED TO BECOME A BASILIAN MONK?

The requirements to become a Basilian Monk are:
  1. to be a Catholic and practicing man;
  2. to love Jesus Christ and want to follow Him with a charitable soul and pure heart;
  3. to desire a life of prayer and in communal service;
  4. to live a sound moral life;
  5. to be free from bonds such as marriage, vows, etc.
  6. to be free from the dependency of children and parents;
  7. to enjoy good mental and physical health;
  8. to be free from financial obligations;
  9. to be interested in the Byzantine-Greek rite and in the Spirituality of eastern Christianity;
  10. to be between the ages of 18 and 35.

The main requirement, beside these above, is the will to change lifestyle, to convert the heart to Christ and to live in community with the human maturity necessary for this way of life.

Suggestions of biblical stories for the vocation discernment

God acts first, inviting, calling, often very quietly, sometimes directly. The Call requires a response.

Abraham Genesis 12:1-9
Samuel 1 Samuel 3:1-21
Jeremiah Jeremiah 1: 4-10
Rich Young Man Mark 10:17-22
Mary Luke 1:26-38
Peter John 21:15-19

What is God asking of me today? Now? What is my response?

«My soul yearns after the Lord and I seek Him in tears. Hadst Thou not drawn me with Thy love, I could not seek Thee as I seek Thee now; but Thy Spirit gave me to know Thee, and my soul rejoices that Thou art my God and my Lord, and I yearn after Thee even to tears. My soul yearns after God and I seek Him in tears».
