1004-2004 L'Abbazia di San Nilo

CD CoverFor the occasion of the Millennium of the Greek Abbey (1004-2004) the Congregation produced a Multimedia CD-ROM in five languages:

1004-2004 L'ABBAZIA DI SAN NILO

The work offers the Abbey of St. Nilus in Grottaferrata (Rome), dressed in its Sunday best for the occasion of its First Millenium of foundation.
It's essentially structured in two parts developing respectively:
- historical, artistic and religious themes, by preferring a descriptive method in a prevailing textual form - therefore more traditional - but not for these reasons less interesting, and
- an aspect tipically more multimedia, via audiovisival supports including:

  • an interactive movie running about 20 minutes
  • a led itinerary allowing to visit the whole monastic area
  • a presentation of particular rooms and activities
  • a study of the abbatial coat of arms.

All this - thanks to the patient and qualified work of many specialists - constitutes a valuable contribution to the knowledge of the eastern christianity observing the Byzantine tradition. This is 1000 years old in Grottaferrata: the Monastery - founded since 50 years before the "schism" of the 1054 - has been always faithful to the Catholic Church, though it was maintaining its eastern peculiarities.
